Range of Motion Bundle

The Range of Motion Resource Bundle helps occupational therapy practitioners and students move beyond memorizing joint motions and begin thinking clinically about how range of motion affects function. This bundle includes visual references for upper- and lower-extremity movement, gait-based ROM demands, thumb opposition, and functional active range of motion for ADLs and IADLs. It is designed to help you connect movement concepts with evaluation, activity analysis, and occupational performance.

Bundle Progression

This bundle follows a practical learning progression:

  • Start with general movement concepts
Learn common osteokinematic motions across the body.
  • Move into lower-extremity ROM and gait
Understand how ROM supports functional ambulation and gait performance.
  • Add hand-specific movement concepts
Review hand movement patterns and thumb opposition.
  • Finish with function
Connect active range of motion to the actual movement demands of ADLs and IADLs.

Products Included

1. Active Range of Motion Illustration | 1 page

A visual overview of common osteokinematic movements throughout the body, including cervical motion, shoulder movement, elbow motion, forearm rotation, wrist motion, digit motion, hip movement, knee motion, and ankle motion.

2. Lower Extremity Range of Motion Illustration | 1 page

A lower-extremity ROM reference that outlines key osteokinematic movements, measurement landmarks, and available ROM values for the hip, knee, and ankle.

3. Functional Ambulation | 1 page

A clinical handout connecting lower-extremity ROM with effective ambulation, including stance and swing phase considerations and broader treatment planning ideas for gait-related dysfunction.

4. Gait Analysis for Occupational Therapy | 1 page

A gait-focused visual resource outlining the 8 segments of gait and highlighting common movement concerns involving the trunk, pelvis, hip, knee, and ankle-foot during functional ambulation.

5. The Kapandji Scoring Tool | 1 page

A quick-reference visual for measuring thumb opposition using the Kapandji scale, helping practitioners observe and score functional thumb mobility.

6. Classification of Human Hand Movements | 1 page

A hand-movement guide illustrating common functional positions and movements of the hand, wrist, and forearm, including opposition, abduction, adduction, pronation, supination, and wrist deviation.

7. Functional Active Range of Motion for Activities of Daily Living | 23 pages

The anchor resource of the bundle. This extended guide connects active range of motion with the actual movement demands of daily life, including reaching, feeding, grooming, toileting, and dressing. It helps practitioners think through ROM not just as a measurement, but as a meaningful contributor to occupational performance.
